The Medicaid Reentry Act is a proposed amendment to Medicaid law aimed at improving healthcare access for incarcerated individuals by allowing Medicaid to cover certain medical services in the 30 days prior to their release from prison or jail. Under current federal law, the "inmate exclusion" policy prohibits Medicaid from paying for healthcare services for incarcerated individuals, though they may remain enrolled if eligible. This restriction often disrupts continuity of care, particularly for those with chronic conditions or mental health needs.
The CMCG, in partnership with Parks Insurance Agency addresses this gap by permitting Medicaid funds to be used for pre-release services, such as care coordination and transitional healthcare, to support successful reentry through facilitating access to medications, mental health treatment, or substance abuse programs during the critical 30-day period before release. Further it provides affordable continuous coverage after release.
